Mustafa Sabbagh. Space Available – aerate your thinking before visiting

This new project emerged from fruitful conversations with contemporary artist Mustafa Sabbagh (Amman, JOR, 1961) and straddles two sites, Galleria Estense in Modena, and the Ducal Palace in Sassuolo. It takes inspiration from the role that past artistic heritage plays in our present. Sabbagh interprets this relationship through photography, video art and installation, immersing himself in the Este spaces and collections with frankly paradoxical results. Works of art and wall paintings are subjected to the language of consumer products and are offered as drugs to be taken like doses of medicine (in Sassuolo), or alternatively (in Modena), they are exalted for their individual aesthetic value, encouraging us to explore the figurative and formal qualities of the art of the past.
